Rise before dawn to witness a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle—the mesmerizing “Golden Kailash,” as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the sacred peak in a breathtaking golden glow. After absorbing this divine sight, embark on the most challenging yet spiritually rewarding leg of your journey—a 22 km trek to Zuthulpukh. This demanding trail takes you across Dolma La Pass, the highest point of the yatra at 5,630 meters. Along the way, pause at the revered footprints of Milarepa and Shiva Tsal, where pilgrims symbolically leave behind personal belongings, a drop of blood, or a lock of hair—an act of surrendering worldly attachments and seeking spiritual liberation. Tibetan Buddhists believe that these offerings are received in heaven after death.
As you ascend toward Dolma La, embrace the privilege of beholding the sacred Gauri Kund, a crystal-clear lake nestled amidst the mighty Himalayas. It is crucial to cross the high pass early before the fierce winds begin to howl. The descent from Dolma La is steep, strewn with loose rocks, making it a treacherous path that requires cautious footing and group coordination. If you are on a pony, the handler may request you to dismount for safety.
Eventually, the trail levels out, leading to Zuthulpukh Gompa at 4,790 meters. Upon arrival, settle into a simple yet warm dormitory-style lodge, where a comfortable bed and thick blankets provide much-needed rest. After a quick yet nourishing dinner, retreat into the warmth of your bed, allowing your body to recover from the day’s strenuous trek.
Meals : Breakfast, Packed Lunch / Snacks, Light Dinner
Conclude the sacred Kailash Kora with a peaceful and unhurried trek along the gentle riverbanks, where the rhythmic flow of water and the quiet Himalayan surroundings create a deeply reflective atmosphere. Passing by the revered Mani walls, adorned with ancient Tibetan prayers and spiritual carvings, this final stretch offers a meaningful moment to absorb the divine energy of Mount Kailash and cherish the sense of accomplishment that comes with completing this extraordinary pilgrimage. Upon reaching the designated point, rejoin your vehicles and drive back to Darchen for a well-deserved lunch and brief relaxation.
The journey then continues toward the border, where necessary immigration formalities are completed before crossing into Nepal and arriving at Hilsa. If weather and operational conditions allow, a scenic helicopter flight takes you onward to Simikot for an overnight stay, offering breathtaking aerial views of the rugged Himalayan landscape and bringing the day to a calm and memorable close.

The journey to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar is considered one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. It is believed that a single parikrama (circumambulation) brings spiritual purification and liberation.
This yatra is moderately to highly challenging due to high altitudes (up to ~5,600 meters) and low oxygen levels. The parikrama involves trekking over rugged terrain, making physical fitness and preparation essential.
Since the yatra takes place in high-altitude regions of Tibet, travelers may experience altitude sickness. Proper acclimatization, hydration, and medical consultation are strongly recommended.
There are multiple routes, including overland journeys via Nepal and helicopter-assisted options that reduce travel time and physical strain. The choice depends on your preference, time, and fitness level.
Due to the remote terrain, emergency support is structured but limited. Basic medical assistance, oxygen cylinders, and trained support staff are available during the journey. TripTo ensures proper coordination and guidance, but travelers are advised to follow safety instructions and be prepared for high-altitude conditions.
